With audiences tuning out generic Hindi content and engagement rates climbing for regional creators, the shift to Gujarati influencer marketing is not a trend — it is a structural change.
A national FMCG brand recently ran two parallel campaigns: one with a Mumbai-based influencer with 2 million followers, another with a Ahmedabad-based Gujarati creator with 100,000. The Gujarati campaign delivered four times the comment engagement and twice the click-through rate. The brand's marketing head called it 'the most surprising data point of the quarter.'
This pattern is repeating across categories — food delivery, fintech, e-commerce, consumer electronics. The explanation is not complicated: Gujarati audiences are incredibly loyal to creators who speak their language, reflect their culture, and exist within their shared reference points. A reel that opens with an Ahmedabadi phrase lands differently than a polished Hindi voice-over.
There is also an economic logic. Gujarat's per-capita consumer spending ranks among the highest in India. Gujarati households are decision-making units — they research, they compare, they trust word-of-mouth. A Gujarati creator recommending a brand carries the social weight of a trusted community member, not a paid spokesperson.
The brands that figured this out early — Swiggy, Rapido, Porter — are seeing the returns. Swiggy's collaboration with Jatin produced 300K+ views from an audience already disposed to order food online. Rapido's reel hit 800K+ views by tapping into a shared Ahmedabadi frustration with city traffic. The content worked because it was not about the brand — it was about the audience.
Regional content also benefits from a lower saturation effect. National influencer feeds are crowded with sponsored posts — audiences have developed near-perfect ad-blindness to them. A Gujarati creator's feed has fewer brand placements, which means each one gets more genuine attention.
For brands targeting Gujarat, Maharashtra's Surat, or the broader Gujarati diaspora, the calculation is increasingly clear: a well-chosen regional creator with deep community trust will outperform a generic national campaign every time. The question is no longer whether to invest in regional — it is how fast to start.
