From Amdavadi Man to the Silver Screen — The Jatin Prajapati Journey

From Amdavadi Man to the Silver Screen — The Jatin Prajapati Journey

Starting from YouTube skits in 2017 to starring in Gujarati films and web series, here's a look at how Jatin built his creative empire one reel at a time.

In 2017, two friends from Ahmedabad sat down with a smartphone and a simple idea: make people laugh in Gujarati. What started as rough YouTube sketches on the 'Amdavadi Man' channel would eventually grow into one of Gujarat's most recognised content brands — but neither Jatin Prajapati nor Kushal Mistry knew that at the time.

The early days were humble. No professional camera, no lighting rig, no editing suite. Just a script written on a phone notes app, a balcony that doubled as a set, and the kind of boundless energy that only exists before you know how hard the road ahead is. The first few videos barely crossed a hundred views. But the audience was there — small, loyal, and hungry for comedy in their own language.

By 2019, something started to shift. Reels on Instagram were becoming the primary vehicle for short-form content, and Jatin's natural delivery — fast, deadpan, deeply rooted in Ahmedabadi slang — translated perfectly to the format. The follower count began climbing. First a thousand, then ten thousand, then fifty thousand. Each number felt like validation of a bet they had made years before.

Brand deals started arriving by 2021. Swiggy was one of the first — a 300K+ views reel that proved Jatin's audience was not just watching but engaging. Rapido followed with an 800K+ views campaign. Then Rewynd, where a single reel crossed 2 million views, making it one of the most-watched Gujarati creator brand collaborations in that year.

The pivot to screen came naturally. Jatin's first film role in 'Hahakar' showed Gujarat that a content creator could hold his own on a bigger stage. Then came 'Mauje Dariya' in 2026 — a family comedy-drama that earned an IMDB rating of 8.3 and became one of the most talked-about Gujarati releases of the year. Critics noted Jatin's timing and warmth as standout qualities.

The web series era arrived with 'Gadbad Gotalo' on JoJo in June 2025 — a five-episode Gujarati detective comedy that brought Jatin's full range to a scripted format. The response from audiences confirmed what many had suspected: this was not just a creator who happened to act, but an entertainer who was finding his fullest expression across every format available.

None of this was accidental. It was the result of consistently showing up, understanding what resonated with a Gujarati audience, and never chasing trends that did not feel authentic. The Amdavadi Man channel still exists. The Instagram reels still go up regularly. The journey from 2017 to now is not a pivot — it is an expansion.
